Here are some pictures of a new piece I just made out of reclaimed oak from an old spiral staircase in my house (hence the name!)

My Winter’s End chest of Drawers is featured in “500 cabinets” – a prestigious US publication from Lark Books. 500 Cabinets, juried by John Grew Sheridan, is the third title in a series of books focused on furniture making as a part of Lark’s esteemed 500 series. Earlier titles were 500 Chairs, juried by Craig Nutt, and 500 Tables, juried by Andrew Glasgow.

Whisky a go-go

I learned something very interesting this week; one of those things that you probably should have known forever and are a little embarrassed to admit to people that the penny has just dropped. Here it is….wait for it…..WHISKY GETS ITS COLOUR FROM OAK!! All you distillery visitors out there are all now shaking your heads and tut-tutting. “Is this guy as thick two short planks? Even my ingrowing toenail knows that whisky gets its colour from the oak barrels in which it is aged!”

A time to blog

Where do people find the time for this blogging malarkey? After launching my blog with much fanfare, global press publicity*, dancing girls** and a lot of telepathic marketing***, I rather spectacularly ran out of time to write anything on it. So to prevent my blog from becoming one history’s glorious failures (cf. Tim Henman, George W, the 5th Beatle), I am back. Back with a vengeance. Well, back with a posting on my blog anyway.
