On 9 September 2009 it was a sad day for furniture making. James Krenov, an inspirational figure to at least 3 generations of furniture makers dies at the grand old age of 88.His philosophy of furniture making is what first inspired me to become a furniture maker and his booked have been a constant presence on my workbench and on my bedside table.

His respect for wood, his appreciation for simple elegant designs and his gnarly woodworker’s hands have been at the centre of my desire to create beautiful things since I started making furniture in 2003.

His legacy, in his books and at the College of the Redwoods in California will live on for a long long time.

I take my hate off to James Krenov.
