THE ENVIRONMENT
I am keen to protect the world’s natural resources. As a result I am particularly keen to avoid using tropical hardwoods as these are often sourced from particularly vulnerable ecosystems which can take centuries, if not millenia, to repair themselves. In order to limit my carbon footprint I use local, native timbers for all of my work. European hardwoods are some of the most beautiful to work.
I try to keep the waste down at the workshop by using my wood offcuts for fuel or for making small gifts for friends and family. I also plant a tree for every piece I make.
“Measure twice, cut once.”
“You will find something more in woods than in books. Trees and stones will teach you that which you can never learn from masters.”
“The carpenter is not the best who makes more chips than all the rest.”
“Without craftsmanship, inspiration is a mere reed shaken in the wind.”
